Effort
Why is effort important? What does a high level of effort look like? What does it feel like?
How do we know if we've put enough effort into our learning tasks?
At the start of the year we spent a lot of time discussing and looking at effort.
We came up with our own effort scale to use all year:

What is a Growth Mindset?
|
When have you found something new to be very challenging?
How did that feel? Did you persist and eventually make progress? How did it feel to achieve something that previously had been so hard? |
Your task: in pairs, watch the Growth Mindset Video. With your partner, decide on the three most important statements in this clip. This might be tricky to decide! You can watch the video a few times if you need to. Be prepared to share back with the whole class.
What does a growth mindset look like?
Take notes on the most important ideas in this video. After watching we will share and combine our notes.
Act it out!
Read your group's scenario and answer the questions.
Decide on a plan then film yourselves acting out a 30 second fixed mindset response (non violent, appropriate please!),
then a 30 second growth mindset response.
If you finish, get editing - a bit of music and text will add a LOT to the quality of your short video.

Developing a positive attitude towards "failure"

“I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. What do you think this quote means?

Reflection: Which areas of learning at school are the hardest for you? Which areas are the easiest? The areas that are the hardest are the ones that will require the most effort from you. Today we are going to write two short paragraphs:
- one about areas of strengths, which require very little effort.
- one about areas that are harder and require more effort. Things we are not so good at... YET.
Co-operative Learning
What does it actually mean to work co-operatively? How can we do this in a way that ensures every individual contributes their part to move the group forward together?
In Grade 5/6 we are investigating the To, With, Not For model. When working in groups we will be reflecting on which box we are operating in, and how we can help our team members to stay in the WITH box as much as possible! |
